VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The enjoyment of any club is the participation in the club activities with other club members.  McCallum HS Lacrosse Booster Club members are typically involved for one to four years while players move through their high school years.  The club operations, activities, and management knowledge is passed from member to member.

Enjoy your time with McCallum Lacrosse, be involved.

Field Preparation

The Knights currently practice at Reilly Elementary School, 405 Denson Drive, just west of Highland Mall.  We maintain some painted field lines on the practice field.  Once the lines are measured out at the beginning of the practice season, it is a matter of going by the field every so often to re-paint the lines before they fade away.  Measuring and painting the first time takes about 2 to 3 hours.  Re-painting takes about 1 hour.

The goals and nets are at the practice field at Reilly ES and Veterans Field at McCallum HS.  The practice and game goal next need some occasional repairs and eventual replacement.  The game goals and nets need to be reviewed before each game to be sure all edges are securely tied to the goal.

Home games at Veterans Field require painted field lines prior to each game.  The game field lines and goals at House Park are provided by others.  We assist AISD to paint the field lines at Noack Sports Complex the first time and AISD will keep the lines painted for future games.

Game Support

Away games during the week usually start with the Knights gathering at the black hole (parking lot north of McCallum High School building next to Veterans Field) after school before traveling to the game.  Pre-game food, such as, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fruit, and water is often provided by a parent at the black hole to get the Knights through the game.

The Knights need at least one 5-gallon jug of water with paper cups at the sideline at each game.  The Knights provide at least one 5-gallon jug of water with paper cups for the visiting team at our home games.  More water may be needed as the game season gets warmer.  We have found that water jugs and paper cups produce much less waste than the convenience of bottled water, as a large portion of the bottled water is often partially used and thrown away.  Water is preferred over juices and Gatorade.

The Knights really appreciate a half time refreshment/snack, like sliced oranges at every home and away game.  Snacks at half time should be easy for the Knights as they are focused at listening to the coach during half time.

Score table support includes a maximum of three for home games and two for away games.  Home game teams are responsible for keeping the official game score and game time keeping.  One person will keep the Knights player stats and game stats, one person will assist the bookkeeper with spotting the plays, and one person will keep the game clock and penalty clock for both teams.  For away games the Knights will have two persons at the game table to keep the Knights player stats.

The Knights game jerseys require laundering between each game.  The white jerseys are used at home games and the blue jerseys are for away games.  Typically, a parent will walk away from the game with the jerseys, laundry the jerseys, and bring them to the next game sideline not later than one hour prior to game time.  Laundering of the jerseys is two standard size washer loads, drying in low heat or hang drying.

Field and spectator stand trash pickup is required following our home games.  All trash generated by the teams and spectators must be collected and placed in refuse cans at the site.  We bring our own plastic trash bags to accumulate game day trash.  We always leave the field and stands cleaner than when we arrived.

Website Maintenancewww.maclax.org

The club website is method to promote the club and share club activities and announcements.  The format of the web site is established, the typical activity is to provide updates as season activities progress.

Photography and Video

For many years the Knights have enjoyed the enthusiasm and professional touches of several talented club parents collecting thousands of still photos and hundreds of hours of game video.  The Knights learn from review of game video and the entire club enjoys the benefit of team photographs.  A DVD of season highlights is typically prepared for distribution at the end of the season.

Printed Materials

Game Day Programs are simple single printed pages to distribute at in the bleachers of each game providing the team rosters and a way to recognize the players on the field.

Each season, the club produces a Season Program highlighting the game season, players and club supporters.  This is often a printed 6 to 8 page program crated in standard computer software and printed at a print shop.

Special Event Organization

Banquet Coordination - The Knights finish each season with an End of Season Banquet to enjoy dinner, review the season, recognize and award the players, and organize for the coming season.  This banquet preparation includes coordination of meals and venue, printing and distributing invitations, and tracking the banquet tasks through the completion of the banquet.

Fund Raising

The club attempts to generate additional operating funds by various means.

The Mac Lax Store sells tee-shirts, polo shirts, jackets, stickers, and other “Knights” memorabilia.  The sales of these items are primarily at home games and by the Mac Lax Store Catalog.  This effort has typically led by one with support from one or two others.

Corporate Donations are solicited each season with the Knights providing recognition for their support in the game day programs, season program, and fence banners at game day (new).
